DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.

During the week ending Sunday, Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunken driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: South Hilo, 12; Kona, 6; Puna, 5; Hamakua and South Kohala, 1 each.

So far this year, there have been 102 DUI arrests compared to 113 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.7 percent.

There have been 94 major accidents so far this year compared to 112 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.1 percent.

So far this year, there have been no traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared to three during the same period last year, a decrease of 100 percent.
